Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files which a website may put on your computer or mobile device when you first visit a site or page. The cookie will help the website, or another website, to recognise your device the next time you visit. We use the term “cookies” in this policy to refer to all files that collect information in this way.

There are many functions cookies serve. For example, they can help us to remember your username and preferences, analyse how well our website is performing, or even allow us to recommend content we believe will be most relevant to you.

Certain cookies contain personal information – for example, if you click to “remember me” when logging in, a cookie will store your username. Most cookies won’t collect information that identifies you, and will instead collect more general information such as how users arrive at and use our websites, or a user’s general location.

What cookies does DanceEvents use?

Typically the cookies that DanceEvents use fall into 2 categories:

1. Essential Cookies

Some cookies are essential to the function of DanceEvents, for example, if you register an account with us it allows us to remember that you are logged in and who you are to ensure we give you the right pages. If you were to disable cookies on this site, you would not be able to register as a member.

2. Functionality Cookies

If you are not registered or are using DanceEvents as a guest, we will store basic details about your location and the dance styles you are interested in so that when you visit us again you do not have to keep on entering this information. We can also "remember you" by storing your email address inside a cookie on your computer so you do not have to keep on typing this in everytime you log into our website. We may also use location information to display relevant advertisements that we feel may be of interest to you.

3. Performance Cookies

We use Google Analytics to track the performance of DanceEvents as well as understand where our visitors come from, the pages that interest them and how they use our website. This information is only used to help improve the website and attract new visitors.

Does DanceEvents tell its users about cookies?

The first two times you visit our website a banner will appear at the bottom of the page telling visitors that we use cookies and directing them to this page for further information. Continued use of DanceEvents after seeing the banner is taken as implied consent to use cookies - the first cookie we will store is on the 3rd page viewed where we will save a cookie to say you have read the cookie banner twice and we won't show it again.

Do we track whether users open our emails?

Our emails may contain a single, campaign-unique “web beacon pixel” to tell us whether our emails are opened and verify any clicks through to links or advertisements within the email. We may use this information for purposes including determining which of our emails are more interesting to users, to query whether users who do not open our emails wish to continue receiving them and to inform our advertisers in aggregate how many users have clicked on their advertisements. The pixel will be deleted when you delete the email.
